Unless you’ve been in a deep sleep after being cursed by a disgruntled fairy, you know that AI-generated content is everywhere. While a lot of the focus has been on written content, we think there’s much more to be gained by using AI image programs to create digital products to sell.
The tricky part, of course, is figuring out which programs are best. You’ll need information about how easy they are to use, how much they cost, and most importantly, how good a job they do creating memorable images that your customers will love. That’s why we’ve done the work for you! So, without further ado, here are 7 AI image programs to try, including both free and paid options.
#1: StarryAI
StarryAI is one of our favorite AI image programs for a reason. You can access it from your browser, and it’s got a user-friendly interface that makes it easy to jump in and get started.
A notable feature of StarryAI is their Prompt Builder. Instead of producing your own prompt from scratch, you can choose features from their list of options, including:
- Artists’ styles
- Art movements
- Materials
- Mediums (e.g., oil on canvas, chalk art, mixed media)
There’s a free option that will give you 5 credits per day. (It takes two to use the Prompt Builder to create an image.) The Starter Plan is just $1.99/week and will give you 200 image generations every week.
#2: Artsmart
Artsmart has received high ratings from sites such as Techopedia. You can use word prompts or image prompts to create high-def images that look wonderful. What really sets Artsmart apart from other AI image programs is that it includes image editing tools as well.
These include:
- Inpainting
- Outpainting
- Upscaling
- Background removal
You can take an AI-generated image or an existing image, upgrade the quality, remove background objects, extend the border and so much more.
The one thing we don’t love about Artsmart is that there’s no free trial. The least expensive subscription is $16 per month, but you can save 20% if you pay annually in advance.
#3: Canva
Canva has been one of our favorite design tools for a long time. They have tons of templates that are available with the free plan. Upgrading to a paid plan gives you access to thousands of additional templates plus Canva’s huge library of images.
AI image generation and editing is a relatively new addition to Canva. You can create images from word prompts and edit them using Canva’s drag-and-drop technology. Some of the apps that integrate with Canva include Dall-E, Magic Media’s Text to Image, and Imagen by Google Cloud.
It’s undeniably convenient to have access to multiple AI image tools in the same place. As noted above, the free plan is excellent, and upgrading isn’t too expensive. Canva Pro costs $14.99/month or $119.99 if you pay annually.
#4: DeepArtEffects
DeepArtEffects is another free AI image tool that can be used either from a browser such as Google Chrome or by downloading the mobile or desktop app. The downside of using DeepArtEffects as an app is that both the app itself and the images you create can eat up a lot of space.
One of our favorite things about DeepArtEffects is that you can create images in batches, something that makes creating multiple products in the same style quite easy. We love a content creation hack and with DeepArtEffects, the time-saving hack is built in!
DeepArtEffects offers a free demo. After that, premium plans start at $9.99 per month, making it one of the more affordable AI image tools around.
#5: DALLE-2
DALLE-2 is the AI image generator created by Open AI, the same company that’s behind ChatGPT. You can use it on its own or through its partnership with Shutterstock.
With DALLE-2, you’ll need to use word prompts to generate images. One of the downsides is that there aren’t any preset styles to choose from, so you’ll need to be detailed to get the image that you want. We really like that DALLE-2 offers both outpainting and inpainting options, so you can expand your image beyond what’s initially generated or erase or add images as needed.
Another thing we appreciate about DALLE-2 is its straightforward pricing. Instead of a monthly subscription, you simply pay for credits as needed. For example, you can purchase 115 credits for $15, which works out to about $0.13 per credit. You’ll need only one credit per generation, and you’ll get 4 images each time.
#6: NightCafe
NightCafe is a combination of an AI-powered image generating tool and a community of artists. It’s an easy tool to use, combining Stable Diffusion with algorithms, including DALLE-2. We really like NightCafe for beginners who enjoy the idea of experimenting with different art styles.
There are no image prompt options, so you’ll need to enter a verbal prompt to get results. One potential downside of NightCafe is that all generated images have a 1:1 aspect ratio, so if you’re looking for anything other than square images, you’ll need to use a different program.
Like StarryAI, NightCafe offers 5 free credits per day plus the opportunity to earn more by liking other artists’ creations or participating in daily challenges. You can get additional credits by upgrading to one of their premium accounts which start at $4.79 per month.
#7: Deep Dream Generator
Deep Dream Generator is our pick for digital artists who prefer surreal or fantastical images. It works by applying filters and patterns that come from defined neural networks. The result is often a dreamlike or off-kilter version of the original image.
We like that you can choose a variety of unique styles and effects within Deep Dream Generator. It allows for both verbal and image prompts, but you’ll need to sign up to use the latter. You can add a variety of effects and filters from a list or create your own.
You can get limited use of Deep Dream Generator for free. Premium accounts start at $19 per month. For that, you’ll get rechargeable energy and the option to create up to 70 images per day. You can upgrade your account to get more energy and more daily images.
