Artificial intelligence, or AI, is fast becoming the go-to tool for creating digital images and other content. While it’s not ideal for every situation or type of content, it’s certainly useful when it comes to creating and marketing digital images—and that includes using them in social media marketing.
What you need to know is that there are some potential pitfalls of using AI in social media marketing given shifting rules on platforms like Facebook and Instagram. It’s important to know what’s required of you as a marketer before you get started. Here are some tips to help you understand the rules and make the most of AI in your social media marketing.
What Are the Guidelines for Using AI-Generated Images on Social Media?
You may have heard some rumblings about using AI-generated images on social media. Facebook and other platforms have announced that they will use AI-detection tools to label images that are created with AI. How does that impact you as someone who may be using AI, selling AI images, and using those images on social media?
The good news is that it shouldn’t affect you in any meaningful way. The guidelines that social media platforms have put in place are designed to prevent the spread of misinformation, particularly as it relates to current events and elections. Meta, which owns Facebook and Instagram, has said that its main concern is labeling photorealistic images where there’s a chance that people might not realize that the image isn’t real.
There’s nothing wrong with using AI images on Facebook, Instagram, or Pinterest. What you may notice is that some of your images get labeled with a disclaimer saying they were created with AI. That won’t be a problem unless you’re misrepresenting something, so you won’t need to worry about it if you’re using AI images to market your online shop and digital products.
Tips to Use AI to Supercharge Your Social Media Marketing
Let’s review some tips to help you ramp up your social media marketing using AI.
Suggest Content Ideas
If you’ve got a social media page for your online shop, you know that it can be time-consuming to come up with innovative ideas to post every day. One of our favorite ways to use AI is to ask it to generate content ideas that we can use on Instagram or Facebook.
For example, let’s say that you’re marketing Back to School products. You could use ChatGPT or another AI tool to come up with a list of ideas for posts and images. Then, pick your favorites and use AI again to write the content!
Create or Enhance Images to Post
We’ve written a lot here about AI image creation. There’s tons of research to show that social media posts with images get more traffic than those that don’t have images. That’s all the more reason to use AI to come up with appealing images to share.
One idea we like is to take an existing product image from your shop and use AI to enhance it. You can add background images or even go all out and use the “Make it More” trend to make it seem like your printable journal came from outer space.
Research Trending Topics and Hashtags
Another area where AI can assist you with social media marketing is by helping you figure out which topics and hashtags are trending. Using popular hashtags allows you to piggyback on what’s popular and get more potential customers to see your content.
Remember that you’ll need to be specific with your prompts to make sure you’re getting current data. Once you’ve got a list of hashtags, it’s easy to add them to your content. You can even use trending hashtags to get ideas for content!
Monitor Your Competitors, aka Social Media Listening
Social listening is something that every big brand does. They monitor what their competitors are doing to market themselves. Social listening can also help you stay on top of what your customers are saying about you. AI tools have made it easier than ever to monitor your brand’s presence on social media.

Social media monitoring can help you get new ideas for marketing your products based on what other sellers are doing. It can also help you monitor keywords and other data that you can use in your marketing.
Schedule Social Media Posts
Wouldn’t it be great if there were a hands-off way to manage social media post scheduling? Deciding when and what to post is another one of those repetitive tasks that AI can take out of your hands. The key is choosing the right tools.
Sprinklr, which we mentioned in the previous section, can handle both social media monitoring and scheduling. Other tools to try include Sprout Social, Braze, and Buffer, which is a free social media management tool.
Repurpose Content
One way to get the most out of the social media content you create is to find ways to repurpose it. Almost any kind of content, including blog posts, videos, and even product descriptions, can be repurposed to make it fresh and new.
With AI tools like ChatGPT and DALLE-2, it’s easy to take an existing piece of written content or an existing image and transform it. In fact, repurposing content is one of our favorite uses for artificial intelligence! You can start by giving AI a piece of content and generating ideas to repurpose it. Then, you can ask AI to generate new content for you to share!
Get More Social Media Traffic with AI
Managing your social media accounts doesn’t need to be something that’s repetitive and time consuming. We can’t say that AI will take all the work out of the process, but we can tell you that using AI can make the process quicker and easier than it used to be.
